A Woman to Know: Beatriz de Dia
I am greatly pleased that I conquered you in love.— Beatriz
Beatriz de Dia was a medieval French troubadour (I know, a woman troubadouring?!) (In the Middle Ages?!) (Can you believe it!??!) (Think of the outfits!!!)
When Amanda Cormier suggested Beatriz for this newsletter, she used the phrase "12th century Adele." Just listen to "A chantar a'mer de so qu'eu no volria." A sample lyric proves girl FELT IT: I am deceived and betrayed/ As much as if I were ugly/ I take comfort because I never did anything wrong/ and yet you are so friendly toward everyone else.
Amanda is on to something.
